Technology at Highland Park plays an integral part in our
curriculum. Rather than viewing technology as a seperate subject, we
believe it should serve as a tool designed to enrich and expand the
learning capabilities of all involved. Technology must take children
beyond keyboarding, word processing, and remedial support through
self-paced programs which fail to enhance the true creativity of the
individual. Computers & technology must be utilized as a
reference resource (a door to the world of information) and as a
productivity tool (organizational & creative expression). It's
our mission to see that children are given every opportunity to take
advantage of our present technology, to utilize educational software
across all subject matters, to develop research skills using the
Internet, and to become independent users of current and future
technologies.
Each grade level's technology plan builds from the previous year.
So even though grade levels may share software and learning goals
appear similar, the content and approach has been enhanced to
challenge the advancing users.
To say that our Technology Scope and Sequence is complete would be
misleading. As technology rapidly advances, we have found it
necessary to periodically review and update our technology program
throughout the year, and software is updated regularly to keep
current generation versions available for student & staff
use.
