Members of the Austin Jazz Workshop provide free performances for the schoolchildren of Austin, as they did recently at Highland Park. Each year they choose a different aspect of jazz to highlight. This year it was tenor saxophones playing "call & response" tunes. The Austin Jazz Workshop is a unique project that brings professional jazz musicians directly into the schools for workshops and performance. Their mission is to inspire young people to fully realize their creative potential through music, & to reconnect students with their shared cultural heritage, in the hopes that they themselves will someday build upon this cherished history of American jazz music.
