Safety Patrol & Service Dogs!
Texas Hearing & Service Dogs held a presentation recently for our 5th grade Safety Patrol teams with "Hogan" the service dog. Our school Safety Patrol members provide a valuable school service by being involved in helping direct foot & car traffic during pick-up time at the end of the day, when students go home. They were rewarded with the presentation as a way of showing that community service can also come in many other forms.
THSD adopts all of their dogs from animal shelters and rescue leagues. Service dogs assist people with physical disabilities by opening doors, fetching wheelchairs, retrieving dropped items, operating light switches, moving paralyzed limbs and getting help, & they can help alert deaf people to things they cannot hear.
