Japanese Lanterns
The Japanese lantern has been an intregal part of the landscaping within a traditional Japanese garden.

How To Make A Japanese Lantern
1. Take an 8" x 12" sheet of colored construction paper.

2. Color a scene, flower arrangement, or a symbol of Japan upon one side so that the scene runs the length of the paper.

3. Fold the paper in half along the 8 inch side.

4. Cut equal segments through the fold line to within 1-1/2" of the outer edge. Cuts should be spaced approx. 1/2" from each other running from the right to the left side.

5. Unfold the paper, and glue a 3/8" construction paper strip along the 12" edge at both the bottom and top (same side as the drawing).

6. Wrap the paper into a cylindrical shape so that the 8" edges are touching. Glue the 8" edges together.

7. Attach a yarn handle to the top similar to a bucket handle.
