The church and its beliefs filled everyone's life, and its priests held very real power over the souls of men.

The cathedral was the house of God. It was also the seat of the Bishop, a powerful ruler of the church who ruled over an entire region of those who served the church. The kings ruled their castles, and the Bishop's ruled their cathedrals.
