Suffolk Castles
Framlingham Castle
Earls of Norfolk built a wooden castle here 1101. In 1177,
Henry II destroyed the castle, but after his death, the 2nd
generation of Bigods rebuilt the castle on a much larger scale
and out in stone. Early in the Tudor era, Henry VIII confiscated
the castle and gave it to his daughter, Mary. The castle
played no part in the Civil War, therefore it was not destroyed
by Parliament.
