Dorset Castles
Corfe Castle
In 978, the Saxon King, Edward the Martyr, was
stabbed to death here on the orders of his step-mother.
King John used it to store royal artifacts and as a
prison. Here he starved twenty-two Frenchmen to death,
and kept his niece Eleanor for most of her life.In the
late 14th century, Edward II was kept here until he was
moved to Berkeley Castle, where he was murdered.
