This book is mostly about a boy named Tyler and a dog he named Bigger. They were looking for Tyler's dad after the Civil War. They traveled from Missouri to Texas. Sometimes they would eat rabbits and fish. Other times they ate lizards and rats. They traveled roughly thirty miles a day. His plan was risky, but it worked.
The first reason I would recommend this book is because this author is very detailed and specific. The other reason I liked this book is that even though Tyler's uncle told him that Bigger was a devil, Tyler still became best friends with Bigger. And last but not least, the author explains that whoever fights in a war, their life is changed by it.
