Hermes Steals Apollo's
Herd of Cows

Just a week ago a baby, Hermes, was born. He is the son of Zeus and Maia. From the beginning evereyone could tell that Hermes was going to be a troublesome god .They were right! After being awake for three days, Hermes's mother was tired. She finally put her cute, unobedient baby to sleep . When she thought he was asleep, she too laid down and fell asleep. She had no idea that her Hermes was just pretending to be asleep . He was planning to sneak out and go play some tricks on any innocent looking person. This is were the trouble begins. As soon as Hermes knew that his mother was asleep he crawled out of the cave and went searching for trouble. The first thing he did was he helped a sneaky theif lie to the soldiers who caught the thief stealing. Hermes told the thief to tell the soldiers that he had to break in because he had been locked out of his own house. Of course the soldiers believed him . Then Hermes gave the soldiers the evidence that convicted the theif. He did lots of things throughout the day and night. Then Hermes came to Apollo's herd of cows. He had a wonderful idea to steal the herd so Apollo would never find out. First he tied branches on the cows' tails. He did this so no one would see which way the footprints went. Then he put straw on the cows' feet so you couldn't hear them moving around. He herded the cows to a secret spot where no one could find them. He sacrificed one cow to the gods of Olympus. Well, something went wrong, and Apollo got horribly mad. Apollo went to Hermes' home and was yelling and screaming. He was just having a fit. Well, Zeus heard all this noise and went down to his sons and told them to calm down and for Hermes to give Apollo his cows back. Hermes did, and Apollo forgave Hermes. Apollo was still a little upset that Hermes had killed one of his cows. Hermes and Apollo became good friends. Hermes gave the only lyre in the world to Apollo since he was the god of music and light. Zeus gave Hermes the power to help thiefs, merchants, liars, and traitors.
