One of our Highland Park 5th Grade Leadership Austin Kids groups took on a community service project this spring, which was to help build awareness of the hazards of cigarette smoking. They conducted research & learned about the many health problems, from minor to deadly, that smoking can create, & hoped to reach an audience of smokers & would-be smokers. They were excited when they found that the Austin chapter of the American Cancer Society chose to use their anti-smoking slogan to place on a billboard in Austin as part of their awareness campaign!

Below are samples of the students' billboard designs & their two slogans. Students found the artwork for their signs on the internet at popular smoking awareness sites; the Cancer Society will be using the students' original slogans, but will use their own in-house art work on the billboards.

Be on the lookout for our billboard along the 1700 block of W. Anderson during the last half of May & the first half of June!
