The Hydra was a many-headed monster and it’s parents were Echidna and Typhon, the Hydra’s “brothers” and “sisters” were: The Nemean Lion, Cerebrus, Ladon, The Chimera, and Sphinx.

The number of heads it had was debatable, some say it had nine heads while others said one thousad. Nevertheless, in the middle of them all was one immortal head.

Heracles finally set out to kill The Hydra for his second labor. Heracles lured the hydra out of its lair by shooting flaming arrows. The Hydra grabbed Heracles, and Heracles called his charioter, Lolaus, to help him kill the beast. Heracles cut off many of The Hydras heads and had Lolous cauterize the wounds thus, stopping the heads from growing back. He finally killed The Hydra and buried the immortal head under a rock.

Heracles was not credited for the kill because the rule was that only Heracles was supposed to kill the beast but Lolaus helped him.
