In November 1995, my third grade class studied a unit about the Middle Ages. As part of that unit, I read to the students a picture book titled The Fourteenth Dragon by James E. Seidelman and Grace Mintonye. It is a very cute story told in rhyme about a little child who asks to go on a dragon hunt along with thirteen other hunters. With each page read, a different dragon is caught and described. On the last two pages, the reader is invited to design their own dragon.....the fourteenth dragon. Below are the fourteen dragons created by each of my students, along with a rhyme verse about their dragon.
