Poolgar Poems?
The Poolgar is an imaginary animal that lives in the
canyons of West Texas. Once every seven years, the Poolgar awakes from
her long hibernation and begins to eat. And eat. And eat. And eat.
The Poolgar will eat almost anything! In small groups, we drew the imaginary Poolgar using only non-verbal communication. We did not talk or write to each other; instead, we signed, drew, acted out and pointed. It was sometimes very difficult to make each other understand.
We wrote poems about the Poolgar after we read Carl Sandburg's poem,
"We Must Be Polite."
If you would like more information on our project, or would like to share comments, please feel free to write us.
