Origin of Name: A combination of two Chowtaw words - okla, meaning "people," a hummus, meaning" red", thus,Oklahoma means "red people."

State Flag: An Osage warriors curcular buckskin shield, decorated with seven eagle feathers and with six crosses that symbolize stars, or high endeavor.The sheild is crossed in the shape of an X by an olive branch , the white mans symbol of peace,and a calumet, or Indian peace pipe.The background is a field of blue, signfying devotion.The design was adopted on April 2,1925 and the name Oklahoma was added on the flag in 1941.

State Animal: American buffilo or bison

State Flower: Mistletoe(named the"flower emblem" in 1893)

State Tree: Redbud

State Fish: White bass or sand bass
